China Customs Recordation: New Rules on Import and Export

China customs recordation is one tool that brand owners can use to protect their intellectual property. China Customs' new law on export and import will officially come into effect from August 1, 2018.  The new law attaches more importance to fill the Customs Declaration form. In addition, the new rules indirectly protects intellectual property by requiring exporters correctly fill related brand information, their cargoes can not successfully pass the inspection once the Customs Declaration Form not meeting new requirements.

In the first half of 2018, China Customs has caught 6.9 million pieces cargoes in general trading involved in infringement and has protected more than 2,200 domestic and overseas brands. Therefore, Tannet strongly recommend those enterprise who engage in import and export business register a trademark as early as possible.

New Rules for Export
1. Reporting to China Customs of the following information of cargoes in filling the Customs Declaration Form:
(1) The overseas consignee;
(2) The location for cargo storage;
(3) The departure port;
(4) Country(region) of origin of cargoes;
(5) The certificate number and the mobile number of the specialist who fills the Customs Declaration Form.

2. New changes in filling the Customs Declaration Form to report more specific information:
(1) The column of "Shipper and Consignee" will be revised to " The Domestics Shipper".
(2) The column of "Transportation Name" will be revised to "Transportation Name and Corresponding Shipping Number".
(3) The column of "Export Port" will be revised to "China Customs Export Checkpoint".
(4) The column for "Attached Documents" will be revised to "Attached Documents and Corresponding Number".

3. The above changes are included when filling the Exported Cargo List Form to report the exported cargoes to China Customs and put on record. In this form, the Contract Number is required as well. 

New Rules for Import
1. Reporting to the China Customs of the following information of cargoes in filling the Customs Declaration Form:
(1) The overseas shipper;
(2) The location for Cargo storage;
(3) The overseas departure port;
(4) The port for cargoes entering China;
(5) The destination country(region);
(6) The certificate number and the mobile number of the specialist who fills the Customs Declaration Form.

2. New changes in filling the Customs Declaration Form to report more specific information:
(1) The column of "Shipper and Consignee" will be revised to " The Domestics consignee".
(2) The column of "Transportation Name" will be revised to "Transportation Name and Corresponding Shipping Number".
(3) The column of "Import Port" will be revised to "China Customs Import Checkpoint".
(4) The column of "Cargo Loading Port" will be revised to "Shipment Transit/Layover Port".
(5) The column for the "Attached Documents" will be revised to "Attached Documents and the Corresponding Number".

3. The above changes are included when filling the Imported Cargo List Form to report the imported cargoes to China Customs and put on record. In this form, the Contract Number is required as well.
