How to report passport lost in China? The first thing you should do once you’ve realized that you lost your passport is to report the loss to the nearest police station. Please note that once you have reported your passport lost or stolen to the embassy/consulate, it is electronically canceled and cannot be used for further travel. Never hand over your passport except to those officials who legally can take it. Below is a brief introduction to the report process.

Lost Passport as a Resident in China
1. Report the loss at a police station and make sure to keep the “receipt of report” that they will give you which will be useful for insurance purposes or any further investigation.

2. You should visit the Exit and Entry Administration Bureau to report the loss and collect your “confirmation letter of reporting the loss of passport”.

In order to receive such letter, you will need to submit the following:
(1) A receipt of report from the local police station;
(2) A photocopy of your passport (the officer will ask you for your passport ID) as well as any other necessary supporting documents to confirm your identity (ID card, driver’s license, social security card, etc.);
(3) Report form with a completed statement regarding the loss or theft of your passport. Make sure to leave the name and telephone number of your contact person in the city;
(4) Registration form of temporary residence;
(5) Other documents required by the public security authority.

3. You may proceed with your application for a new passport
You should go to your home country’s nearest embassy or consulate to submit your application and where officers will help you register for the procedure. After this step, you will be asked to apply for a reissued passport.

In order to receive your new passport, you need to do the following:
(1) Go fill out a police report for your lost passport;
(2) Get the application form and fill it out;
(3) Go to the local embassy or consulate;
(4) Make the payment;
(5) Collect the new temporary passport.

4. Apply for a new visa at the Exit and Entry Administration Bureau. When you receive your new passport, you need to go to the local Exit and Entry Administration Bureau for your new Chinese visa.
