China special economic zones (SEZs) are special economic zones located in mainland China. Special Economic Zones were created by the People’s Republic of China to attract and utilize foreign capital investments .The government of China gives SEZs special policies and flexible governmental measures. This allows special economic zones to utilize an economic management system that is more attractive for foreign and domestic firms to do business in than the rest of mainland China.
Special economic zones are intended to function as zones of rapid economic growth by using tax and business incentives to attract foreign investment and technology. The first four special economic zones were created in 1980 in southeastern coastal China and consisted of what were then the small cities of Shenzhen, Zhuhai, and Shantou in Guangdong province and Xiamen in Fujian.
Advantages of Shenzhen Special Economic Zone
Shenzhen, a sub-provincial cities lying at the southern part of Guangdong Province, mainland China, is one of the five cities with independent planning area of the People’s Republic of China. It was among the first 4 locations in China to be given SEZ status. Shenzhen Special Economic Zone is arguably the world’s most well-known and most successful special economic zone. Shenzhen is one of China major ports for foreign trade and international exchanges, and China earliest special economic zone and newly-rising tourist city. Advantages of Zhuhai Special Economic Zone
Zhuhai Special Economic Zone is one of the five special economic zones in the People's Republic of China and it originally comprising a territory of 6.1 km² in Zhuhai City. With 604 km long coastline, Zhuhai owns 147 islands of different sizes and it has the reputation of "the 100 Island City”.
Advantages of Shantou Special Economic Zone
Shantou is located at the eastern coast of Guangdong province, with a population of more than 5million people and an administrative region of 2,064 rectangular kilometers. Shantou is an important city in China, one of the treaty ports set up for Western trade and contact, was one of the original 5 Special Economic Zones belonging to the People's Republic of China. Shantou set up a Free trade Zone lying on the south component of Shantou city with a region of 2.34 km2. It was ratified by Council of the People's Republic of China. It is a comprehensive trade zone for export processing, storage, oversea trade, and finance and info industry.
Advantages of Xiamen Special Economic Zone
Xiamen is one of the 5 earliest Special Economic Zones. Located in the southeastern coastal area of China, Xiamen is linked with Zhangzhou, presenting the landscape of the Golden Triangle in South Fujian, and faces Jinmen across the sea. With convenient transportation facilities, Xiamen is easily accessed by air, railway and highway. Foreign investment enjoys the same economic policies as in the special economic zone.
