Commercial Model is a niche that spans across a wide area. Advertisement, magazine and other marketing and advertising tools also fall under the commercial umbrella. Normally, to be a commercial model, there are some requirements and criterion according go different company’s needs:
1. Height: Since there is less pressure to reach the heights that top fashion demands commercial models are slightly smaller. Therefore, female models are usually required to measure at 5’6” and a male should stand at 5’11” tall.
2. Gender: Both female and male models are required by the commercial brands to promote their product. Gender fluidity is now recognized in the industry yet, only a select few brands are featuring transgender models in their campaigns currently.
3. Physique: It seems like a slender, toned body shape is sought after in both male and female models. Therefore, it is important that both emerging and established models maintain a healthy physique through a sensible diet and exercise regime.
4. Age: There is little discrimination in the commercial world with child and teenage modelling being very present in the industry. Brands require kids to model their designs and promote their product. Female and male models are typically aged between 18-35. Mature models do have their part to play yet are hired less often than the younger generation.
5. Race: Although the modelling world is accepting of different ethnicities shaping a diverse industry there remains accusation of racism.
Commercial Model- Facts & Basic Etiquette
1. Arrive on time. Plan ahead to avoid being late. Find the location, the route and the length of time it takes to get there a couple of days before.
2. Wait your turn. Castings usually involve a lot of waiting around with the actual judgments lasting a couple of minutes. Be patient.
3. Wear jeans and a tee (unless specified otherwise) and a pair of comfortable shoes. Also, leave the hair and make-up natural to avoid distraction.
4. Be prepared to strike a few poses on demand or demonstrate your model walk.
5. Ooze confidence by being friendly and positive.
6. It is a daunting experience but do not let the nerves spoil your performance.
