Updated:2017-7-28 15:00:04    Source:www.tannet-group.comViews:704

The 144-hour visa-free transit policy has been carried out in Shanghai, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Guangdong to facilitate international travelers to China. It allows passengers from 53 countries or regions to transit in the above cities or provinces for no more than 144 hours (6 days) without holding a visa.

Areas Allowed to Stay
(1) If transiting in Shanghai, Jiangsu and Zhejiang: passengers can move around the three places.
(2) If transiting in Guangdong, passengers can travel within Guangdong Province.

List of Qualified Countries
Countries having access to this policy are the same as those enjoying 72-hour visa-free transit policy, including:
(1) 24 Schengen Agreement Countries: Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta.
(2) Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland.
(3) 15 Other European Countries: Russia, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Cyprus, Bulgaria, Romania, Ukraine, Serbia, Croatia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Montenegro, Macedonia (FYROM), Albania, Belarus, Monaco.
(4) 6 American Countries: the United States, Canada, Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, Chile.
(5) 2 Oceania Countries: Australia, New Zealand.
(6) 6 Asian Countries: Korea, Japan, Singapore, Brunei, United Arab Emirates, Qatar.

Eligible Transit Ports
The 144-hour visa-free transit program has been implemented in Nanjing Lukou Airport of Jiangsu, Hangzhou Xiaoshan Airport of Zhejiang, and all air, sea and railway ports of Shanghai, including Pudong Airport, Hongqiao Airport, Shanghai Port International Cruise Terminal, Wusong Passenger Transport Center and all railway stations in Shanghai. Passengers can enter and leave from any of the above ports.

Conditions for Application
Passengers should hold an onward ticket with a confirmed seat and date as well as a valid visa to a third country or region. Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan count as third regions in term of immigration affairs. For example, the route UK-Guangzhou-UK is not eligible because the passenger does not fly to a third country or region, while the routes UK-Shanghai-Hong Kong, Japan-Nanjing-US, Canada-Guangzhou-Seoul-UK, and Russia-Seoul-Shenzhen-Macau are fine.

Passengers are required to enter and leave from the eligible transit ports only, but the entry port and exit port do not have to be the same. For instance, one can land in Guangzhou Baiyun Airport but leave from Shenzhen Bao'an Airport, or one can take a cruise to Shanghai and then leave by air from Nanjing or Hangzhou.

The layover time should be limited to 144 hours. However, the 144-hour free stay period counts from 00:00 of the day following passengers' arrival. That is to say, the allowed time to stay is actually a little bit longer than 144 hours. If one arrives at 6:00 a.m. on July 1, the layover time counts from 00:00 of July 2 and the passenger should have a ticket with the scheduled departure time before 23:59 of July 7.
