According to the country's top economic planer, China aims to develop a batch of world leading companies in major manufacturing areas such as transportation equipment by 2020.

The National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) launched another three-year (2018-2020) action plan to boost manufacturing upgrades and improve competitiveness, with the previous one seeing advancement in various areas.

"Intelligent" is the key word
Nine key sectors are in focus: Rail transit equipment, high-end shipbuilding and marine engineering equipment, intelligent robot, smart car, modern agricultural machinery, high-end medical devices and medicine, new material, intelligent manufacturing and large technological equipment.

The goal is to realize the industrialization of key technologies in these fields, and build a batch of top brands of "Made in China".

Manufacturing is the main body of the real economy. The plan is to promote the integration of Internet, big data and artificial intelligence with the real economy, said the NDRC.

"The nine sectors represent the leading edge, the direction and the future", Li Haijian, industrial analysist of Chinese Academy of Social Science, told Yicai.

Achievements of the last three-year (2015-2017) plan
The new plan is mapped out on the basis of the implementation of the last one, while taking new conditions and requirements of economic development into consideration. Significant achievements have been made under the targeted policies in the last plan.

Emerging industries like new energy car, industrial robot and rail transit equipment are developing rapidly, reaching world-class production scale. Data from the National Bureau of Statistics shows that in the first ten months of this year, the profits of these sectors climbed 13.1% from one year earlier, 0.7 pct higher than the average industrial profits.

China's self-developed bullet train "Fuxing", with a top speed of 400 km/h, was put into commercial operation this June. Automatic urban rail transit system has gone through pilot exercise.

Key technological breakthroughs are made in robot parts manufacturing. And China's robot testing certification and standard system is maturing.

The NDRC also outlined  policies to ensure the implementation of the new plan, including funding core technologies, optimizing incentive policies, improving corporate credit evaluation system, and strengthening international cooperation, etc. (Source: CGTN)
